Salmon & Mango on bed of mushrooms

I made this colorful dish to celebrate this long weekend.
Here's the recipes:
Step one: coat salmon with egg and bread crumb, season with salt and pepper.
Step two: cut mango, tomato into cubes, prepare mushrooms ( I like different types all together), I used Oyster, Shiitake and Enoki mushrooms.
Step three: Cook mushrooms and tomato in soy sauce, water and butter (just alittle) till well done
Step four: Pan fried salmon till golden brown
Step five: To plate this dish, first I bedded the dish with mushroom sauce and then placed mango on top, at the end I buttered my cooked salmon with wasabi mayo, sprinkle desired herbs or better to complete the dish. ( I used dill as I like the look and how it taste on seafood) Walla, It's Delicious!

JESSICA HARRISON porcelains

When I saw the porcelain works by Jessica Harrison, a sense of familiarity came to mind. I remember my grandmother has a couple of these porcelain figurines on her dressing table, and I loved them since I was a girl. But this collection by Harrison, changes the purity and beauty of these figurines. I think these are wonderful pieces, juxtaposing the unfamiliar harshness and the pristine delicacy.

DIY : cross stitch : my kitty

cross-stitch cat, my mochi

I enjoy the calm repetitious act cross-stitching provide. I can watch a video, listen to podcasts, and catch up to the latest happenings, all the while cross-stitching. Here I recently finished a little portrait of one of my cat, mochi.

Best Alphabet apps for babies

These are 2 ipad apps my baby love.

1) Endless Reader by Originator Inc.
It's nicely animated, easy way of learning simple words and how they are applied in sentences.

 2) The Lonely Beast ABC
So interactive and fun, this is one of our favorite apps for babies. The app is based on Chris Judge's children's book The lonely beast.

playlist weekend: most cheery

Huge smile on my face and O! what a beautiful day is printed on my mind everytime I listen to this most cheery song.

Of course, I have to include Kermit singing Rainbow Connection with Debbie Harry, since I am very much into her as the lead singer of BLONDIE.

DIY : kite themed 1st birthday

Over the past week, I helped a friend of mine to create a kite themed party setting for her son's first birthday. She decided on the theme and colours. We created pinwheels pinned on the eraser head of pencils and simple paper kites. I actually had to cute out the letters for the name by hand. Luckily I have my handy Slice cutter, that let me draw and cut out the letters precisely. Slice is a precision cutter, I like how it feels on the grip, and it really make easy on the cutting. There is a trick though. Since I used a slightly thicker paper for the letters than normal printing paper, I have to make sure I pushed the tip of the Slice cutter all the way through before I start to pull on it to make the precise cut. It took a few practice before I am confident to make the final cut.

playlist : M83 trilogy

"Midnight City", "Reunion", "Wait" from the M83 album Hurry Up, We're Dreaming, a visual collaboration between M83 and Fleur & Manu that was ongoing throughout 2012. I enjoyed the trilogy narrative music videos quite a lot. You can easily be attached to the character, and there is a sense of urgency that kept you watching. And of course M83! watch.

Grill whole fish

My husband grilled two whole fishes as dinner tonight. We got the fish from a local asian supermarket. It was already cleaned, next stuff the fish with sliced ginger, whole garlic, salt and pepper to season. Coat the fish with olive oil. Grill it on a already soaked wood planks till the meat gets white. (about 4-5 mins on each side) Squeeze a whole lemon on it when ready. Wood planks could be found at williams & sonoma or other kitchen stores. Here's a pic I found on WS site, there are 3 different flavors – cedar, maple and alder to add to your fish.

Tapas as dinner tonight

I'm in love with Tapas very since I set foot in Barcelona.
Tapas (Spanish pronunciation: [ˈtapas]) are a wide variety of appetizers, or snacks, in Spanish cuisine
I love making Tapas when I don't feel like cooking a big meal. I usually go to local wholefood store for 2 types of cheese (soft and hard), a canned seafood (smoked oyster/octopus/sardine in olive oil) , prosciutto or other dali meat, crackers and of course pickles and olives. I lay them out on my wood cutting and pour a glass of Spanish wine. Wala! Romantic Dinner is ready.
